About Broken Poetry

UK Hiphop is the platform. Deep intellectual lyrics and original intricate flows is our forte. That’s what sets us aside from the competition. So if you like all that generic same ol’ gangster crap, then leave this site right now because this ain’t for you!

Our philosophy is based on the original concept of Hiphop, which was a collage of self-expression and deep message. But somewhere along the line it became corrupted by commercial influences, greed for money and sold the soul that gave it life in the first place. That’s the reason why most rappers nowadays talk about the same rubbish. The ‘Bling-bling!’ is getting embarrassing, and it demeans rappers and artists as a whole. Is this what people think rap really is?

Let’s break it down for a minute . . . rap is nothing but poetry over instrumentals, and you could go on to say that it’s actually unconventional poetry. So I define my art as poetry that’s been broken down back into its raw element, broken down to surpass the barriers of definition, broken down to bend the rules and challenge your perception of poetry ... and break it. Only then can your mind be free and open to all art forms, the power behind meaningful lyrical Hip-hop and appreciate what we call Broken Poetry.

That’s what Broken Poetry is all about.

About Hemz

photo - hemzI was born and raised in England, a true Londoner and proud of my British-Indian heritage. At a young age I learnt about the power that words posses, and developed the hard work ethic instilled in me by my mother and father to become what I am today.

There is nothing in this world that can change the course of a man’s life so effortlessly as a mere sequence of words, and so I’ve made it my life’s work to show all of you that the pen is definitely, undoubtedly, undeniably far mightier than the sword.

I understand too well how important and influential lyrics of a song can be to a young mind and those seeking understanding and inspiration. That is why I write about real life, everyday people, and issues that everyone can relate to. And the glue that brings it all together is an arsenal of diverse vocabulary, a strategy of intelligence that’s carefully placed within intricate flows.

I’m bringing back wholesome home cooked food to the table, coz I’m sick of that junk, corrupting our minds. Coz it’s time to go back to the beginning, its time for us to think for ourselves and it’s time for a revolution.

Peace!

About Shigeko

photo - ShigekoGrowing up in Japan, music has always been an important part of my life. Ever since I starting singing from a young age, I’ve come to realise how irreplaceable music really is. It’s such an integral part of our lives, influencing our emotions and amplifying our feelings. At times of happiness or at times of despair, there is always a song for every emotion, capturing our true feelings.

My favourite artists include Lauryn Hill, Hibari Misora, Natasha Bedingfield and Pink. Who have all inspired me to pursue a career in music, and follow my passion in life. I will never be able to return everything that music has given me, but through my work I hope to contribute my part towards its beautiful history. Thank you.
